Garden Troubles

For those of you who aren't aware, this summer has been plagued by unusual weather troubles (namely, a heck of a lot of rain). As a result, my little garden (an assortment of vegetables and fruits and plants in containers on my porch) is having all sorts of troubles itself.

My tomatoes were dreary and sad for most of June - having gotten about 8 hours of total sunlight throughout ALL of June. The tomato plants have since perked up and have produced about a dozen actual tomatoes (sadly... they are only NOW beginning to turn not-green).

My Brussels Sprouts were attacked by tiny, adorable green caterpillars posing me with a difficult problem. Kill the tiny, adorable caterpillars or watch my nurtured-from-birth plant? In the end, I found a spray I could make at home to deter the caterpillars.

The cucumbers got fungus, the tomatoes got aphids, slugs attacked, then drought... etc. etc. etc.

The latest in the long line of garden woes? I came home a few days ago and, as usual, immediately checked on my baby plants. My (giant) sunflower plant looked good but I noticed that it had a few leaves who were missing most of themselves.

And that, is when I found the fuzzy caterpillar! Again, he's adorable and fuzzy! But... he's killing my plants. So hard.
